Are parents in children’s lives here in Ireland? I just observe and think golly these children will potentially struggle in later years.
A yikes post.
I’m just an observer. Not criticising but genuinely a bit concerned.
So I know. My parents are off the “silent generation”. No communication figured it out for myself. But by golly how damaging it is. Real life stuff like to avoid homelessness etc was never talked about. How to avoid it. By getting your foot on the property ladder as soon as possible and getting a mortgage. Getting a relatively stable job with good pay and conditions. Nothing like that ever talked about. This kind of thing needs to be emphasised. It’s a stark reality without bank of mom and dad.
My parents didn’t make a fuss about those things but I wish they did. Actively picking out and helping me in my path in life. I suppose the fact that I didn’t have support, I swear I have some kind of neurodivergent thing going on. But honestly I hear of so many people regretting their choices in college and they end up just floating through life. Existing with the help of the parents. But if they didn’t exist I don’t know what would happen them.
I see 17 year old learner and novice drivers having 2019-2021 cars. They are probably bought for them from the parents as they’re still in education. They don’t work. I’m just observing but it’s like these children are gifted a life and backed financially by parents. Is this feeding into entitlement? Plus driving around the roads practicing with no parent or fully licensed driver.
Children and teenagers seem to have free rein when it comes to walking around the neighbourhood looking into people’s bins. Knocking and wandering into neighbours houses with free will. It just seems that parenting and discipline have vanished. I know of a neighbour having an au pair the family have a severely intellectual child-adult that is a risk to himself and others. There doesn’t seem to be a plan for him. The au pair isn’t trained or anything for these behaviours. She’s very much on her own, vulnerable. She’s just being used. She’s there constantly as one parent sadly passed away and the other works long hours. She’s trying to manage him and the other children.
