2nd Grade Skills

I have a rising 2nd grader. Last year at the beginning of 1st his teacher mentioned he was having a hard time following directions and learning routines (i guess he was zoning out). We worked with him at home (giving him chores and directions) and by the next semester his teacher said he caught up and was on par with his peers in this area.

Anyway so my question since we have another month before school starts what should we be working on at home to prepare him for 2nd grade? How do classroom responsibilities change from 1st to 2nd grade? Thank you!
