How do you shade?

Greetings.

I'm painting some warriors of the dead following the warhammer app guidelines. After applying the Biel-Tan Green shade to the ghostly grey areas of the whole miniature, I feel that the miniature color changes way to much and to get the desired result and I need to apply a dry brush of the Celestra Grey base. This is viable with this miniatures because almost everything is ghostly grey. The issue that I'm worried about is with other non-ghost miniatures, in which i cannot do a massive dry brush. Do you think in those cases the shade won't change the color that much? Or will I be forced to shade just the specific areas (I kinda feel that controlling shade just for the reccesses in a full miniature is just a huge work)?
