Hey everyone!

Over the last month, my group and I have been working on a weapon feat system for D&D 2024, and we’ve finally reached the point where we’re testing it in actual games.

The goal wasn’t to increase player power. We wanted to make every weapon feel worth specializing in, so choosing a weapon becomes more about playstyle than simply picking the strongest option.

Each weapon has its own feat with a mechanic that reflects how that weapon should feel in combat. The feats are built around the 2024 Weapon Mastery system rather than replacing it.

Some examples:
Greataxe excels at cutting through groups of enemies with a sweeping attack.
Greatsword rewards steady, reliable damage.
Longsword focuses on defensive dueling.
Rapier encourages counterattacks.
Pike rewards charging into combat.
Whip emphasizes battlefield Control.
Warhammer rewards well-timed burst damage.
We’re also testing an Unarmed Strike feat that lets you switch between different martial stances based on the great Houses from our homebrew setting.

Instead of choosing Weapon Feats during level-ups, they’re earned through experience. A character learns a feat for a weapon after rolling either a natural 1 or a natural 20 with that weapon 20 times. The number of Weapon Feats you can know at once is limited by the number of Weapon Masteries your character has.

We’re still actively playtesting and making changes whenever something feels too strong, too weak, or simply isn’t fun.

I’d really appreciate feedback on things like:
Balance
Rules wording
Interactions with the 2024 rules
Feats that seem too weak or too strong
Weapons that don’t feel distinct enough
Anything that looks exploitable or confusing
I’m still putting together the final PDF in Homebrewery, so I don’t have the finished document ready yet, but I’d love to get some opinions on the overall concept before everything is finalized.

Thanks for reading, and thanks in advance to anyone willing to take a look or share some feedback!
