Shopify is great for eCommerce… but is it right for every business?

When someone wants to start selling online, Shopify is usually one of the first platforms they hear about.

And for good reason.

It makes launching an online store much easier than building everything from scratch.

But like any platform, there are tradeoffs.

Where Shopify shines:

Easy setup
You can get a store up and running quickly without needing much technical experience.

Built for eCommerce
Shopify was designed specifically for selling online, so features like inventory management, payments, and product pages are already built in.

Lots of integrations
There are thousands of apps that can add features like email marketing, reviews, shipping tools, and more.

Reliable hosting
You don’t have to worry about managing servers, security updates, or technical maintenance.

Where Shopify can be challenging:

Monthly costs add up
The subscription is only the beginning. Many stores also rely on paid apps, which can increase costs.

Customization has limits
You can customize a lot, but you’re still working within Shopify’s ecosystem.

Not every business needs it
If you only sell a few products or don’t need advanced eCommerce features, Shopify may be more than you need.

The biggest mistake businesses make:

Choosing a platform before understanding what they actually need.

The “best” platform depends on:

  • How many products you sell
  • How much customization you need
  • Your growth plans
  • Your budget

Shopify is a powerful tool.

Just make sure you’re choosing it because it fits your business, not because everyone else is using it.
