Hi. I look at some similar past request but those are 12 years old.

In short please recommend me a book set in a historical period featuring good (with magic) fight scenes and a touch of philosophical subtext.

I’m looking for fantasy (not Chinese or more like not wuxia I read those) that gave me a vibe of genre wuxia or wuxia-inspired feel.

What I mean by that:

1) vividly described, cinematic fight scenes in more elegant way in ancient/medieval setting not rough battles action scene.

2) Bonus:

\- a strong philosophical or moral meaning in the story

\- characters shaped by their beliefs, sects, or personal codes

\- wandering, traveliing, religions

\- love story as a subplot or main protagonist with relationship

I’d love something that blends this with a more Western-style magic system or worldbuilding. Elements of nature in magic welcome.

For reference, I’m thinking of works like Jin Yong’s novels (Condor trilogy) or Thousand Autumns by Meng Xi Shi where the fights are not typical rough action, but part of character and their ideology. Martial techniques, Qi who they are and their style of fights also depends into which sects they belongs and that have also more religious subtext.

Not so much Cradle style or typical progression fantasy.

Preferably not overly comedic or purely action-focused without emotional moments.

Thank you for reading.

Books who give me similar vibe to wuxia like the in the picture or wuxia inspired in Western fantasy?
