Settler Wrecks Player's Home, Film at Eleven
So, this was something I hadn't come across. Until last night.
I recently started a new ghoul toon. For his first legitimate CAMP, I chose a spot near Charleston Station. Set it all up. [Well, most of it. Still a WIP.] Added a couple turrets, but mostly for show. Charleston Station is not exactly a hot bed of danger and mayhem. Or, at least, so I thought.
While working on some things in CAMP I hear my turrets start going off on something. When I get outside I see a turret shooting at a target attacking a settler NPC that sits just north of my CAMP. The enemy dies just as I'm getting out there. But then, it starts getting weird: the settler starts attacking my turret. Which then attacks the settler back. Not exactly sure what to do at this point. I figure, maybe the settler is having a bad day. Screw it: I let the settler keep fighting my turret.
Eventually, the turret dies. But that's not the end. The settler starts attacking the structure it was on. Okay, at this point I feel the need to step in and deal with my unruly neighbor. So I go to kill the rabid settler. But that's when I found out that *this* settler cannot be harmed by me. And then it gets weirder. Even though I did no harm to the settler [not for lack of trying] the settler turns and attacks me! Now I have an unkillable NPC shooting at me and actually doing damage.
It gets weirder. I also had a missile turret that, up until this point, was dormant. It started shooting. I thought in defense of me, the turret's loving creator. Of course, the settler can't be killed. So I realize it wouldn't matter. I figure, maybe if a move away the settler will start shooting the turret and I can take a little extra time to figure out a way to stop this nonsense. I move to a nearby structure and that's when I notice a missile lobbed my way...
Yes, now MY missile turret was attacking ME.
I put my reticle over the turret. Sure enough, it was showing red. At this point, I'm confused as heck. I realized strong action might be necessary. So I deactivated the whole CAMP. Fortunately, this seemed to be the correct solution. CAMP goes away. Settler decides to go back to her crop. I eventually bring the CAMP back online and it's back to being its happy self. Repaired the one dead turret and went back to my business, baffled but unbroken.
Ah Bethesda, don't ever change. :D
