I hate the bad rap that American tourists get

Americans are some of the most polite and and socially aware tourists around. Most of the disruptive or disrespectful behavior I have seen with tourists usually comes from Asian or European tourists, the latter of which are ironically the ones who think that Americans are the “bad ones.”
