Is a snake the right pet for me?

I've done my own research but would like experienced opinions on this matter. I'm moving into a new apartment in 2 weeks and I already have 2 cats, who are well behaved but curious. I live in a rather warm area but will probably be using AC 99% of the time that I'm home during the hotter months. I have a good amount of space to play with, 3ft x 3ft around and plenty of horizontal space, and would love a little one that is both beautiful and at the very least tolerant of handling. I can do maintenance like cleaning and feeding, but setting up reptile enclosures and choosing the species seems so complicated. Any advice for me?
