Marriage Is Still Treated Like a Milestone, Not a Choice
I'm 27 years old, and many people around my age have reached different stages of life. Some of my friends and relatives are already married, some are getting married, some are expecting a child in the next month or two, and some seem to be more in a tussle than a marriage.
From what I've observed, it often feels like our parents would rather accept a failed marriage than no marriage at all. Earlier, it was, "Engineering kar lo, phir jo marzi kar lena." Now, it feels like marriage has taken that place.
Ironically, once someone gets divorced, the pressure often eases. They're no longer expected to fit the standard script of settling down, starting a family, and living the life society expects.
I just wish parents understood that choosing not to marry can also be a valid and fulfilling life choice and supported that decision a little more.
