How can I improve my banking situation?
Hello there
I (M27) have just now finished university and will be starting to work full-time (projected salary 100k/year) in the public sector. As all banks have realized that I am no longer a student, I will be converted to a regular adult customer and this means incurring A LOT of fees everywhere (obviously...). This is why I would like some advice regarding my "distribution of accounts" and where you might see potential or which ones I should let go of or reorganize. It is all a little messy and once a year when I do my taxes, I am usually surprised with how much money is accumulating (while each single thread is not that well-fed). So I don't really see the big picture at the moment. Currently, I have accounts with the following banks/institutes:
- Aargauische Kantonalbank
- running balance of ~3k CHF, varies (emergency fund included)
- for daily use
- salary/income enters here
- creditcard, various LSV, health insurance premiums, rent, mobile phone contract, ... leave here
- I also have 6k CHF in stocks deposited here, that I cannot transfer to my YUH-account (and my godfather gave me 3 NESN for my 18th birthday, and because YUH does not offer RHM, for example)
- Raiffeisen
- Mietkaution
- Fondssparplan (SPI index fund and EUROSTOXX index fund)
- ~10k invested
- keeping the bank alive mainly to get the Genossenschafter perks (reduced fees for ski resorts, free museum entries, etc. ...), and I also have Genossenschafteranteile
- Yuh
- for investments
- ~10k invested
- titles: SDZ, KO, IMPN, VHYA, VWRA, CHDVD SW Equity, 200CHF in ZGLD
- Bank Cler
- 1 payment account (0 CHF), 1 savings account (~6k CHF)
- had a promotional offer at uni giving free 60CHF, and the interest 0.2% on the savings account is not bad and the account is free, but I rarely use it
- Swissquote
- 1 account
- opened in 2021, deposited 1 CHF to test the connection, forgot about the account, never used, recently recovered login
- might use for my tutoring side hustle in order to separate from rest (taxation-wise)
- Coinbase
- ~300 CHF invested in BTC
- (I do not own a physical wallet, nor do I really understand how to deal with one, so having crypto deposited like here is not my issue)
- 3x Twint apps
- 1x Prepaid, 1x AKB coupled, 1x Raiffeisen coupled
- ... in case of larger amounts or if the prepaid one does not work ... I receive funds only on Prepaid and try to only use that one for paying, too.
I have the following cards:
- Kantonalbank STU debit card
- Kantonalbank credit card silver
- Raiffeisen debit card
- Swissbankers TravelCash card, not much in use, as backup (coupled to the Kantonalbank)
- Miles & More membership (but no card, don't think I would use it enough)
- TCS membership (no creditcard)
For the 3rd pillar, I am currently with Raiffeisen, 100% in ISIN CH1144269540 that I'm trying to fill every year, but I know that there are better options out there so I am open to changing. Have not yet made my 2026 investment. Saxo/Frankly/Viac/Truewealth are names I have heard of.
I am also willing to let go of all of my cards (since they will start to come with fees soon) and get new ones that are more cost-efficient. Like Migrosbank creditcard, Swissbankers / TCS or whatnot. Haven't looked into it but am curious what you think I could do.
Obviously I will perform my own due diligence with any information given to me on here.😄
