What's the thing you were most afraid of before your first big trip that turned out to be nothing?

Discussion

Mine was the first night. I'd built it up in my head as this vulnerable, exposed thing, lying in a thin tent in the dark with every rustle outside being, obviously, a bear coming to eat me. I almost didn't go because of it, genuinely. And then the actual first night, I lay there rigid for about twenty minutes cataloguing every sound, and then I was just... asleep. What I wish someone had told me is that the fear peaks the week before you leave, not on the trail, and that once you're actually out there the worst-case scenarios just quietly stop showing up.

What was yours, the fear that loomed huge beforehand and evaporated the second you were actually out there? And what do you wish someone had told you before?
