I love this story but I don’t think it’s the best Daredevil story like most people think. I don’t think it’s a very good introduction to Daredevil because it portrays him as a very unlikeable character which works when you have more Daredevil stories to compare it to and to make you understand this isn’t exactly how Matt acts normally. It’s like if season 3 was the first season of Daredevil. We wouldn’t have anything to compare his actions to and to see this is him at his worst instead we’d assume he’s always like this.

Also people wouldn’t know who Karen Page and that she’s been a relatively normal love interest who hasn’t been hooked on drugs in the original Daredevil comics. I also prefer when Fisk is more sympathetic caring about his wife over ruining Daredevil’s life. I think that obsessive hatred of Daredevil should more be Bullseye’s role in the rogues gallery.

Another reason is the suicide of Heather Glenn is mentioned and when I read that I was really intrigued to see what that was about which took me out of the story for a while. Suicide is a very personal and resonating topic for me who’s dealt with it for most of my teenage years. I also disagree with people who say this should have been where Daredevil ended.

Disregarding stories like Nocenti’s run my personal favourite run of the character and Bendis and Brubaker’s run which I love almost as much as Nocenti’s. There’s so many great Daredevil comics after this point that I think ignoring those isn’t smart. I think at the minimum you should read Yellow or some of the original Daredevil issues to get a feel for how Karen was prior to her becoming a drug addict and you’ll also see a lighter side to Matt and also Miller’s previous run to see the development of Kingpin and Daredevil’s rivalry. Those are just my thoughts and I still think this is a wonderful story for the world’s greatest superhero I’ve just wanted to let these thoughts out. Hopefully I don’t get too much hate.
