WE ARE SORRY THAT WE CANNOT ACCEPT THIS CHECK TRANSACTION

St. Louis Park, Minnesota

Offense Date: February 6, 2024

Booking Date: July 27, 2026

A Target loss prevention employee on Highway 7 in St. Louis Park watched two women load carts like price tags didn't exist.

One of them stepped up to the register and handed over a check.

The machine said no.

According to the criminal complaint, that declined check was the first domino. The two women walked out anyway and got into a black SUV — and that SUV's plates didn't match the vehicle it was riding on.

Officers pulled it over. The driver: Titika Denae Hatley, 41. The passenger: a woman identified as Tyrhonda Marie Williams.

The VIN came back stolen.

Asked about it, Hatley allegedly told officers a man named "Patrick" had given her the car so she could drive to Target.

An inventory search of the vehicle turned up counterfeit bills in several denominations, including, in the glove compartment, an uncut sheet of four fake bills still printed on a single piece of paper.

Hatley was arrested on suspicion of receiving stolen property. A search incident to arrest turned up the following on her person:

\- $485 in counterfeit currency

\- A checkbook belonging to another person's initials

\- A check written out to Cub Foods for $194, belonging to someone else

\- A blank check belonging to a third person

\- Two additional checkbooks belonging to a business — one written out for $6,777.87, another for $5,062.81

\- A credit card belonging to another individual

\- A temporary license belonging to another person, bearing a mismatched birthdate and a slightly misspelled middle name

\- A check written out to Target for $301.46, belonging to that same individual

\- The Target receipt for the declined transaction, reading: "We are sorry that we cannot accept this check transaction."

Surveillance footage backed it up. Officers reviewed the store's cameras and allegedly watched Hatley hand a check to the cashier, then produce that same mismatched temporary ID to back it up. The transaction was denied. The cashier handed both back.

She's charged with four counts: check forgery (offering or possessing a forged check with intent to defraud), identity theft, receiving stolen property, and counterfeiting of currency — a felony-level package with one gross misdemeanor attached.

The case sat open for more than two years. Hatley made it to a handful of hearings before missing one in May 2024, which triggered a bench warrant (issued when a defendant fails to show up for a required court date). That warrant stayed active until it was cleared on July 27, 2026 — the same day she was booked into the Hennepin County Jail.

A hearing was held the next day. A judicial officer issued a new conditional release order (the document laying out the terms someone must meet to be let out of custody), setting bail at $20,000 with no conditions — or release on conditions for $0, provided she stays law-abiding, keeps every court and probation appointment, stays away from the St. Louis Park Target, avoids firearms, and doesn't leave Minnesota without court permission.

As of the most recent jail roster check, no release has been recorded — Hatley's custody status still reads as currently in the Hennepin County Jail. Her next scheduled court date is an omnibus hearing (a pretrial hearing where evidence and motions get sorted out) on September 9, 2026.

ADDITIONAL HOLDS

Bloomington Case (27-CR-22-17390): The second warrant tied to Hatley's July 27 booking traces back to a 2022 misdemeanor theft charge out of Bloomington — taking, using, or transferring movable property without consent.

The case had a rough four years. Between March 2023 and February 2024, Hatley racked up five separate bench warrants for missing hearings. A bond tied to the case was forfeited in December 2023 and later disbursed. The final warrant, issued February 22, 2024, stayed active until it cleared July 27, 2026 — the same day as her other warrant. Following a July 28 hearing, she was released on her own recognizance (ROR — no bail, bond, or conditions required) on this case.

Washington County Sheriff's Office hold: An out-of-county felony matter, with bail listed at $5,000. No additional case detail was available in current records.

Both of Hatley's open Hennepin County cases now point to the same court date — September 9, 2026.

All individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Details are sourced from the Hennepin County Jail Roster and Minnesota Court Records Online (MCRO), including the filed criminal complaint.
