Managing fire risk in rewilding schemes

Hello from usually wet Scotland

We've been struck by some huge wildfires in the last few weeks, and traditional land management and ritual communities are putting the blame on rewilders. They're claiming herbivore reductions and subsequent overgrowth of heather and other shrubs has created a massive fuel load, which would otherwise have been managed by deer, sheep, and controlled burning as part of traditional land management.

Many of us in the rewilding space in Scotland have been asking what can our rewilding schemes do to prevent future wildfire risk.

Would be keen to hear from rewilders in Mediterranean or other high risk areas! This isn't a problem we would traditionally have faced in "wet" Scotland, but with the climate changing we could definitely learn something from abroad
