Col de la Seigne is where fast starts go to die (UTMB Countdown 7/12)

The climb to Col de la Seigne tops out around 2,500m. It's the middle of the night, it's cold, and this is where the bill arrives for everyone who hammered the first 30K.

  • Watch your heart rate on the climb. If it's drifting up at the same effort, back off before the nausea starts.
  • Over the col you cross into Italy, then hit the Pyramides Calcaires. Sharp, technical rock where you can't push even downhill. You don't need to fight it, but you do need to avoid getting hurt.
  • Lac Combal is close after. It might be a small aid but it will give big morale.

Moral of the story, If you paced the first quarter right, this section is just cold and slow. If you didn't, it's where your race might start to unravel...
