Your Disneyland Trip Could Look Very Different in 2027 — Here’s Why

Planning a Disneyland vacation in 2027? Here’s what will be under construction, which attraction is closing, and the biggest changes coming to Disneyland Resort.

If you’re planning a Disneyland Resort vacation in 2027, don’t be surprised if you encounter construction walls, changing pathways, and a few familiar sights disappearing altogether. While Disney has several ambitious expansion projects in the works, 2027 will be less about grand openings and more about watching the resort transform before your eyes. From the closure of a longtime family favorite to major work taking place around Disney California Adventure and the resort entrance, here’s what visitors can expect.

What Will Change at Disneyland in 2027?

  • Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue! will close permanently to make way for the new Avatar-themed destination.
  • Avengers Campus construction will continue on Avengers Infinity Defense and Stark Flight Lab.
  • The new Coco-inspired attraction will become more visible as construction progresses near Paradise Gardens Park and Pixar Pier.
  • Work on the Eastern Gateway parking and transportation hub will move forward outside the theme parks.

1. Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue! Will Close

One of the biggest changes coming to Disneyland Resort in 2027 is the permanent closure of Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue! at Disney California Adventure. The family-friendly dark ride has entertained guests since 2006 (well, 2001, technically if we count its time as Superstar Limo), but Disney has confirmed it will close to make way for a new Avatar-themed experience in Hollywood Land.

The attraction was originally expected to close in early 2026, but Disney pushed the timeline to 2027, giving guests more time to ride before construction moves ahead.

For many visitors, this will mark the end of one of Disney California Adventure’s most recognizable opening-era attractions. If the ride has been sitting on your “I’ll do it next trip” list, 2027 may be your last opportunity before Monstropolis gives way to Pandora.

2. Construction Will Continue at Disney California Adventure

Even if you’re not saying goodbye to Monsters, Inc., you’ll likely notice plenty of construction throughout California Adventure.

Work is already underway to expand Avengers Campus with two major new attractions — Avengers Infinity Defense and Stark Flight Lab — and that activity is expected to continue throughout 2027. Neither of these rides has an opening timeline yet, but with the pace of work happening currently, odds are it will only pick up next year.

Once Monsters, Inc. closes, Hollywood Land will also begin its transformation into Disney’s new Avatar destination, bringing additional construction to that side of the park.

Guests should expect visible progress, changing views, and occasional adjustments to pathways as Disney continues one of the largest expansions in the park’s history.

3. The Upcoming Coco-Inspired Attraction Will Take Shape

Another project that will become increasingly noticeable is California Adventure’s upcoming Coco-inspired boat ride.

Construction began backstage near Paradise Gardens Park and Pixar Pier, and by 2027, guests should start seeing much more visible progress as the attraction continues to take shape. While the ride won’t be open just yet, its growing presence will serve as a reminder that another major addition is on the horizon (and you may be able to see more than just flat swaths of dirt!).

4. Construction on the Eastern Gateway Parking and Transportation Hub Will Progress

Some of the biggest changes in 2027 won’t happen inside the parks.

Disney has filed permits to officially begin moving forward with its new Eastern Gateway parking and transportation hub, a massive project that will eventually include a new parking structure with approximately 6,000 spaces, expanded security screening, rideshare and shuttle facilities, and a pedestrian bridge connecting guests to the resort.

As construction progresses, visitors should expect work around the eastern edge of Disneyland Resort and behind hotels across Harbor Boulevard to be visible. There may be possible adjustments to traffic patterns and arrival routes as construction occurs.

While these temporary inconveniences may be noticeable, they’re laying the foundation for what Disney hopes will become a smoother, more efficient arrival experience for millions of guests in the years ahead.
