Low and falling hCG but confirmed ectopic with methotrexate – has anyone had a similar experience?
I’m looking to hear from anyone who has been through something similar because this has been such an emotional roller coaster.
I had what was initially thought to be a chemical pregnancy.
My hCG values were:
459
501 (48 hours later)
505
386
298
126
I was having intermittent left-sided pelvic pain and some light spotting, so my OB ordered a transvaginal ultrasound.
The ultrasound showed no intrauterine pregnancy but did show a 2.6 cm left adnexal mass that was concerning for an ectopic pregnancy, along with a small amount of free fluid. My hCG that day had dropped further to 61, but because of the ultrasound findings they recommended methotrexate.
I received the methotrexate injection yesterday, but immediately afterward I passed out. My heart rate and blood pressure dropped significantly, and I was kept for observation. My EKG was normal, but my hemoglobin dropped during my ER stay so they repeated labs before eventually discharging me. Today I actually feel pretty normal with minimal pain.
For anyone who has had methotrexate for an ectopic:
Did your hCG continue to fall quickly after treatment?
How long did it take to reach zero?
Did you have pain after the methotrexate, and if so, what did it feel like?
Did anyone else have a vasovagal reaction or pass out after the injection?
How long did your doctor have you avoid exercise?
How long did you wait before trying to conceive again, and were you able to have a successful pregnancy afterward?
This is my second pregnancy loss this year, so I’m feeling pretty discouraged and anxious about what this means for future fertility. I’d really appreciate hearing any experiences or words of encouragement. ❤️
