Can someone help me understand the new changes to PvP Gear & Tier Sets in 12.1?

Retail

This is my first season pushing hard in PvP, and I’m absolutely stunned by how needlessly complicated gear optimization is in PvP; and it seems that just as I’ve figured it all out (mostly), now we have a new 12.1 complication with the Tier Set gearing. My goal is to have my gear be as strong as possible in PvP, and from that base have it be as strong in PvE as I can on top without sacrificing PvP power. PvP > PvE (but I do want my gear to also be as strong as it can be in PvE; i.e. I only want to wear one set of gear that fully covers me BiS wise in PvP, but functions as best as it can in PvE).

Here is how I have figured out gearing so far, and what I have done; please correct my mistakes or misunderstandings if there are any. I’m not assuming anything below is correct & I’m stating what I believe to have learned (correct me wherever possible):

I started by buying a full set of Conquest gear that had the better stats I would want when multiple options were available for one slot, and they all came on the Champion upgrade track & automatically scale to max PvP ilvl. I then upgraded all those pieces to 6/6 Champion.

I then realized that I would benefit greatly from having 2 embellishments (which can only be placed onto crafted gear), so I chose the two weakest armor slots (cloak & bracers) to minimize stat losses, and I crafted/ordered a max quality PvP cloak & PvP bracers with ideal stat Missives & Embellishments. They scale to max PvP ilvl just like the Conquest gear, but cannot be upgraded further; which is why I chose the two weakest statted gear slots.

I then added Gems to the items which already had sockets (Neck & Rings), making sure to have one gem be the ideal PvP gem for me which I put in the necklace.

I then added sockets to the items which could have sockets put into (Helm, Bracers, Belt) using the PvP Jeweler’s Setting. I added gems to the Bracers & Belt, but I waited to add a gem to the Helmet because that is a piece I would want to be a Tier set item & the gem would be lost in the Catalyzing process. So, I then began working on the Tier set.

For the Tier set, I figured I would want to choose the strongest statted 4 gear slot options of the 5 available; so I chose Helm, Chest, Legs, and Shoulders (and passed on using the weaker Hands slot). Then I added the gem to the helmet. All 4 were catalyzed from 6/6 Champion Conquest pieces, so all 4 came out Champion 6/6, and automatically scale to max PvP ilvl.

Then I added my desired max quality enchantments to the gear which allowed for enchantments (Boots, Legs, Chest, Helm, Rings, Shoulders, Weapon).

That is where I currently sit as a baseline. And now I want to know where I go from here. I believe I have in essence gotten my BiS set for PvP (very close to it); however, I want to push this gear set to be much stronger in PvE without sacrificing any PvP power.

From what I gather from the recent 12.1 changes to how Catalyzing gear into Tier set pieces now works, my next step would be to skip the Heroic track gear hunting for efficiency, and pursue Mythic pieces which match the slots where I want Tier pieces (Helm, Chest, Legs, Shoulders). I will also want to pay close attention to the stat categories (i.e. Versatility of any # + Mastery of any #) on these items as the most important part, noting that the stat # doesn’t matter (just the category of stat matters) because they will be preserved through catalyzing now & appear scaled up on the Tier piece. Sounds like a hellish grind, but obviously the vault will help tremendously if lucky.

Once I obtain for example, a Mythic Helmet with the right stat blocks, I will repeat the above process of refining the Helmet to 6/6 Mythic, Socketting, Catalyzing, gem it, enchant it, and because this item will be coming from PvE content, I will also need to add a Lacquer/Varnish to enable the item to scale to max PvP ilvl. And then repeat that process for the other 3 Tier pieces.

At which point, I think I have close to the best of both worlds for a mainly PvP’er; although, now it would appear that other “bonuses/cantrips/effects” that are present on the Mythic piece also carry over through catalyzing & not just the stat typical stat categories (example: leech, avoidance, procs, speed, resistance, etc). Which completely throws my head into a whirlwind of confusion as to how I can possibly determine which specific Mythic Helmet (for example) I should be farming for.

If all that is true; is there a database of every available Mythic item which I could search to compare which specific pieces I want to hunt down to then catalyze? And am I on the right track here?
