Triglycerides spiked 3 months after starting Levo. Is this normal?
Hi everyone!
I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism a few months ago and started treatment with 50 mcg of Levothyroxine. I just got my follow up labs done and my TSH is finally in the normal range.
However, I'm a bit concerned about my lipid panel. While my cholesterol is starting to improve, my triglycerides have nearly doubled:
- Initial: 157 mg/dL
- Current (3 months later): 290 mg/dL
A friend who is also being treated for hypothyroidism suggested I should check for insulin resistance before bringing these results to my doctor (since they didn't initially order that test,) but I was wondering:
Is a spike in triglycerides a normal part of the adjustment process when starting thyroid medication, or could this point to something else?
Thanks in advance!
