I looked for support and instead got reamed out
My husband and I had a fight, we don’t argue like this much at all, but it happened, I was in the wrong, I yelled and he left. I tried to apologize but he said it was too late for that. I was reeling afterwards - needing to talk to someone, get calmed down, talk it through. I tried reaching out to a few of my friends but none were available.
Then, this other friend texted me randomly about something else. - She and I have been a little patchy for a while but I figured this might be an opportunity to share more, strengthen our bond and repair the drifting Ive noticed. I responded to her text and also added that my husband and I had a massive fight and he walked out on me. She replied that she’d “love to talk”. I took that as a warm embrace, lie her saying I’m here for you.
I told her what had happened, bawling through it because I was so emotionally wrecked. Her response was “I’m not surprised this happened, I knew you guys were on track for a huge blow out”. Then she proceeded to say that I need to take a chill pill and I need to calm the f down. She said that I haven’t been myself since November and I need to go to therapy and do some soul searching to sort myself out.
I understand that sometimes in some situations people need tough love and to be pushed to be a better person, but for context - my dog was diagnosed with congestive heart failure in January and we had to change our lives drastically to accommodate her condition to keep her going until she eventually passed in June. Those were 5 of the hardest months we’ve been through - yes I was depressed and anxious, but wouldn’t anyone be?
She hurt me so bad in this conversation, that when it was over her words haunted me. My husband hated me, my friend hates me, all my other problems in life. I seriously thought I shouldn’t bother living anymore and was in an awful state.
What do you make of this? Do you think she was looking for an opportunity to tell me off and said those things vindictively, or do you think in her own way she was trying to be helpful?
