The Age Of Confusion
Mid 20s M
I don’t know where I’m headed and it saddens me so. I thought I did everything right. I worked hard in school and went to a good university. Unfortunately, I graduated with 6 figures in debt and failed to get a proper career to pay it off. I’m employed now, which I’m grateful for. However, I live in a HCOL area. I haven’t been able to move out and quite honestly don’t even think I can afford a roommate situation. I need a higher paying job, but I don’t have the skills needed to get one. I’ve been employed this entire time, bouncing around between positions. Now I have a job that is pretty decent but the pay is still not enough to get by with. I manage my money appropriately but because of debt and expenses, I genuinely don’t think I can get ahead as of now. I thought I’d have it all together by now. I either thought I’d be de*d by this age or extremely successful and I’ve somehow ended up right in the middle. Not particularly good, nor bad. I reek of mediocrity although I’ve always tried my best with everything. I’m jealous of my peers because they have lovely places to live and I’m still in mom’s house. I feel a profound level of shame because society makes it seem like men like me are “men children” and all sorts of derogatory references, when in reality I’m trying my best and have always been trying but still fall short. I firmly believe that you can do everything right and still feel behind. Maybe I’m just over exaggerating because I’m mid 20s but there genuinely feels like no hope. This is also completely unrelated but I want a girlfriend too and feel like such a horrible candidate because of my debt and shortcomings which have done nothing but add onto my existing insecurities. Just writing for anyone who feels the same.
