Temporary 10 day failed MVI stickers

My car failed the MVI this month, and I'm waiting for a part to come in next week to get the work done. I know there are 10 day stickers you can get when there's a failed MVI, but I'm a bit confused about how they work, and I'm finding mixed messaging online. My sticker expires tomorrow, and I just want to make sure I can drive my car to the mechanic next week without any risk of driving around with an expired sticker. Anyone have experience with this?
