I thought Julian had written all the songs on Reality Awaits, but its not true (and some suggestions for those criticizing the autotune)

Just read that someone on the sub saying that Reality Awaits sounds like a Julian solo album so I wanted to share a few things. Btw, that was one of the cheap attacks on Angles i forget which magazine said that same thing about Angles which was acutally a full band songwriting effort. For what its worth, and for anyone thinking Julian wrote everything on Reality Awaits (I kingd of thought that myself at first). Its not the case. Although he has done that in the past for albums that defined them Is this it and ROF etc. Here he is leading and directing the band, as he should I think.

Albert just mentioned in the new podcast episode (Tetragrammaton) with Rick Rubin that "Lonely the Future" was a song idea that he brought in. I was under the impression that they may be back to Julian writing all the songs, and the credits on apple music show Julian as the songwriter and the Strokes as the arranger on most songs besides a few. But it seems that info is misleading based on what Albert just said. Also "Going Shopping" has credit to all 5 of them as songwriters.

My two cents: like many of you they are one of my favorite bands, by default for me that means I like Julian's songwriting and the style and approach they each have to bring song ideas to life.

Instead of repeating themselves, the Strokes have always done things with a fresh and different take while having their signature sound at the core of it. They have done this on every album and this new album does exactly that too. Albert mentioned they used to get backhanded compliments like yeah you're good but the vox are distorted or your sound is too Lo-fi back in the day.

Now its the same thing, its good but it seems many dont like the autotune. Look i make music too and while I wont put that on my vocals myself, I think it good to keep in open mind if an artist I like experiments with it. Also I think that in the next albums he will do clean vocals again.

They are adding new FX not just on the vocals but the guitars too. On a first listen it may stop you in your tracks on certain songs but I think those are the ones to go back to with an open mind. Albert thinks that these two recent albums sound the most like them even more than the old ones and he is excited about their future work and of course I am too.
