Personal thoughts on the event.
Honestly, it was great. Enme is another example that sometimes the scariest thing in humanity is humanity itself. He set everything in motion. I never liked Syuen, from her annoying voice to the fact she was a huge bitch. That being said, I was able to sympathize with what happened in her past. No loving parent, no close friends, daughter of a monstrous CEO who only cared for the continuation of Missilis and couldn't even be bothered to call anyone by their names, random half-sister who appears out of nowhere, instantly gets more attention from the dad, and is also a monster herself. Rough. Sucks for sure. I do like how the starts of story 1 and 2 contrast the difference on how things turned out between Laplace and Syuen. Both had shitty lives, terrible fathers, and were often ignored when help was needed. Both took solace in heroes and hero movies. Syuen wanted to make heroes. Laplace wanted to become one. A stark difference for sure.
I do think Syuen was stunted at a young age after all that happened. A child having all of that happen and then being shoved into a CEO position at such a young age, it's no wonder. I still do think she can be blamed. I felt legit impressed when Syuen actually made the whole blueprint and everything. And seeing her so sad about Lala and caring for Maxwell showed some of that humanity. Even feeding Laplace and giving her that chance, believing in her. It does paint some decent parts of Syuen. I don't think it helps much after her choices afterwards. The board stuff is a mixed bag. I do agree that it's hard to just sit there and allow these people with no remorse to target her as soon as they feel even the tiniest bit threatened. Retaliation is valid. Hell, I think even the threats were valid. I do think there should've been another way. Maybe a placebo, maybe another drug was given that was false, just something to put fear into them, but not have a bomb collar around their neck the whole time. Would it have worked? Maybe. Would the board maybe have found a way to retaliate after that? Potentially. But we never got there. Straight to a bomb in their gut. And it was cathartic to see them squirm and even one die considering the 8 ladies who melted. But at the same time, Syuen needed to understand that since she went with that choice, she has to keep in mind that she had to accept the consequences as well, be it politically or within her relationships. The fact she didn't even really take responsibility near the end tells me that she'll find any way to deflect blame.
That being said, that ending man. I don't think Maxwell is faking anything. I truly do think that she keeps those memories separate from herself. Those are both hers and not hers. Human Maxwell died. And I do agree that Maxwell is in some part to blame. But I think that her decision, on her death bed, her final words. Justified. Maxwell didn't sign up to be a mom. She wanted to do research and very clearly spoke her mind. She was dedicated to her beliefs. What did Syuen expect? Maxwell cared and that's more than what Syuen was entitled to. Maxwell was there from the start, doing what she could, even sparing her feelings because she knew how much she cared for Enme. And despite that, Syuen still turned out the way she did. You can only blame a human researcher so much. So, leaving Syuen with that scar on her death bed? Another of the consequences of Syuen's actions.
Great event. Kind of a shame we didn't really get much of Drake until the very end, but maybe we'll get something for her soon.
