Phorid flies update

Hello, i wanted to provide an update on phorid flies. Hardly anyone updates and I want to give the people who are searching tirelessly (like I was) for a solution to have hope. So about two months ago I started noticing these little gnats show up. I wasn’t concerned because in the summer we get fruit flies, so I assumed my overripe bananas were the culprit. But throwing out the bananas did not solve the problem.

I began frantically searching and after research I realized it was phorid flies. My heart sank because these things can breed in so many different places. I was freaked out & so disgusted seeing 100s/week. I sprang into action. I got the cleaner for drains and a Zevo for every room. But that wasn’t going to solve my issue that’s only for the adults you have to find the source of the moisture/organic matter or you won’t win against these filthy pests. I called a plumber, had the utility company check the sewer, and called exterminators. I found a bunch of them breeding in my shower, there was organic build up that had to be a snaked out that solved part of the issue. I checked the refrigerator pan, threw out mop heads and toilet brushes they were still everywhere. I was going crazy, I have an infant we couldn’t eat at home & peace was stolen from our home. It was a nightmare. I felt like I was living in biblical Egypt and going through the plagues.

Even with my efforts of sealing up food, pouring boiling water, peppermint oil down drains, scrubbing garbage disposal daily and enzyme cleaner down drains, covering drains, window fly traps I was down to 35/week still too many.

I was beginning to think it was the new normal. Then I get a knock from the utility company, they needed to reexamine the sewer line because it wasn’t inspected thoroughly. And guess what? A pipe was cracked in the sewer line and that’s been the source of the issue.

I’ve had so many sleepless nights over these things afraid they were going to crawl on my infant. I haven’t been able to eat so disgusted with the 1000s stuck to the window. This has been a nightmare that tested my faith. It may seem like just little flies but it’s no wonder it was a plague. I cried out to God so many times. If you’re a praying person ask Him for wisdom.

I hope none of you have to ever deal with this! I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy. But if you do there’s hope. Anoint your home, pray and be vigilant. It’s hard to get rid of them, but all things are possible with God.
