Kansas - can I legally sue my dad if he destroys thousands of dollars in my belongings while I live with him?
Location: Kansas, I’m 19 but I don’t make enough to live on my own, I’m stuck living with my very aggressive dad, I know its stupid but the only thing that really helps me cope is I have a large collection of records. I have every single record individually cataloged online with exact condition and specific written out notes on the item (if it’s signed, if it’s missing the pamphlet, if it has the pamphlet, etc) and my collection is worth at least 5k if not more.
My dad was raging this morning about finding I think hair in a shower drain and was just screaming and threatening me and told me if I didn’t stop fucking crying he was going to destroy my record collection and I fully know he’s willing and capable of doing so and I could not stop crying so it’ll likely be destroyed when I get home.
it’s not just about the money (though of course thats a big deal to me) I’ve put so much of my life and love into that collection. A lot of those records are incredibly irreplaceable and may not be worth a lot but are incredibly rare and he knows this means the world to me which is why he is going to destroy it. I’m currently working on finding a alternative place to live but none of my family wants to take me in really because it would be inconvenient for them and I have mental health issues due to everything which is hard for them to deal with, but if I do get a place and settled would I be able to sue?
Thanks in advance.
