Used FG800 vs FG820 vs New FG800(M)
I'm looking at Yamaha guitars again. I think I won't get over the addiction at looking at these guitars til I get one. LOL! I already have a concert guitar (not a Yamaha) but I like the sound of the Yamahas a lot - maybe too much.
There's some on sale sometimes in Long & McQuade and that would get a free setup and warranty. Or I can take a chance and get one of the used ones on Facebook Marketplace. The FG800(M) and FS800 are usually $200 (give or take) and sometimes a bit higher than $200 but there's enough, that I can probably haggle it down to $200. These usually don't include a case. I think cases can be found used, too - which is preferable but often, they're a bit farther than I want to drive. Not a concern, though.
I'm wondering if a FG820 is worth $50 more? Sometimes, I come across one for about $250 ish but usually, ppl want about $300 which I think is a bit too much for me. I think $250 sounds intriguing, though. Also, I have to look at distance (away from me) since it's still a used guitar and it might need a setup so I have to factor in gas cost (expensive in Canada) and wear and tear (on the car). It is also a risk (guitar might need just a setup and hopefully, not much more). I know a guy who will do one for $40 (basic setup) although I want to learn (how to do it myself).
Should I stick to just FG800 and FS800 (I like the size of these but I already have a concert sized guitar) or should I consider a FG820, too? I googled/researched the FG820 - it has a rosewood fretboard while the FG800 has a walnut-fretboard (I thought some of them also have rosewood, though - no???)? There's also some fretboard binding or something? The guitar is also a bit darker sounding? It might be a tad better for the music I like (or want) to play - 90s rock/alternative/grunge/also stuff like Tool etc. Thoughts?
It's not really that complicated and I think it won't matter which one - but, was just curious if there is anything I am not thinking of. Thanks.
