Hi everyone,

I’m at a point where I honestly don’t know what else I should be doing, so I figured I’d ask people who have been through this.

I’m currently a cybersecurity student with only a few months left before graduation. Over the past year, I’ve been trying to position myself for an entry-level cybersecurity role by building hands-on projects, completing labs, documenting what I learn, and consistently posting my progress on LinkedIn and GutHub

Some of the things I’ve worked on include:

Networking labs in Cisco Packet Tracer (VLANs, DHCP, subnetting, router configuration)

Linux and Bash scripting

SIEM and log analysis labs

Wireshark packet analysis

Python security scripts

General defensive cybersecurity projects during my internship

I’ve also been doing a defensive cybersecurity internship, so I’m not just studying theory.

Despite all of that, I haven’t been able to get my first cybersecurity role. Most applications either get rejected automatically or never receive a response. I’ve tailored my resume multiple times, optimized my LinkedIn profile, and kept applying, but it feels like I’m hitting the same wall over and over.

Because of that, I decided to shift my focus toward entry-level IT Support and Help Desk positions. My thinking is that getting professional IT experience first would make it easier to transition into cybersecurity later.

The problem is… I’m struggling to get interviews for those roles too.

At this point I’m wondering:

Is my resume the problem?

Am I applying to the wrong jobs?

Are my projects not strong enough?

Is the market just this competitive right now?

I’m not looking for pity. I genuinely want to know what I’m doing wrong so I can fix it.

If anyone would be willing to review my resume and give honest feedback even if it’s harsh I would really appreciate it. I’d much rather hear the truth now than keep repeating the same mistakes.

Thanks in advance.

Nearly graduating with a Cybersecurity degree, still can’t land my first IT/Cyber role. I’d really appreciate some honest advice and a CV review.
