Used 2024 XC60 T8 vs Golf R
I’ve been driving a 2012 BMW X1 xDrive28i for over 10 years and have absolutely loved it, but it’s finally getting to the point where I don’t trust the reliability anymore.
I’m looking for something that’s:
- Fun to drive
- More reliable
- Better fuel economy
- Good for road trips (skiing, camping, golf)
- Comfortable in the city (half street parking, half garage)
- Capable on forest roads/snow, but not serious off-roading
Right now I’m considering:
- 2024 Volvo XC60 T8: love the powertrain, fuel economy, interior, audio, and road-trip comfort.
- Volvo V60 Polestar: probably my dream option, but they’re expensive and hard to find.
- VW Golf R: seems like the fun/value pick. Smaller and easier to park, likely cheaper than the Volvos.
- Toyota RAV4 Hybrid/Prime, 4Runner, or Tacoma: for the reliability and outdoor capability, though I worry they’d be less fun to drive and not as nice to be in
Budget is flexible, and I’m mainly looking at lightly used examples.
Am I missing anything? Are there other cars I should be looking at? Curious what people who’ve owned or cross-shopped these would recommend.
