It was our final year, and my most recent report card painted a clear picture for my future.

Failed classes.
Warnings.
Last chances.

My father was sharp, ruthless, wildly successful and had always planned to hand the business to me once I graduated.

But now the threat loomed: fail again, and the business will be handed over to my insufferable younger sister.

The parties didn’t help. Neither did the late nights, the pill popping, the detentions, or the countless partners I brought home.

They all led me here.

We were classmates in biology and for this project our teacher put us together.

You weren’t someone I was really ever acquainted with, but you were smart, and I knew you’d get me the grade I need to pass this class.

You had ambitions. You were a genius even and you were well on your way to becoming a student at the most prestigious college.

And then there was me.

I was reckless.
I was used to getting exactly what I wanted.

Maybe I did it to avoid studying.
Maybe I did it because I liked the way you looked at me when I finally paid attention.
Maybe I did it to cross off a fantasy I’ve carried for far too long.
Or maybe I was just bored of endless lectures about where my future is headed if we don’t pass.

Whatever the reason, the pull was undeniable.

Once we crossed that invisible line, there was no turning back.
