Does everyone like the character Col O'Neil in StarGate?
I am a star trek fan and just recently I started watching StarGate SG1. While there are very similarities between those 2, and I understand it is to be expected because of the theme.
Note that I have only completed season 2 of SG1 (and had not watched the original movie).
While I am enjoying watching SG1, one thing I am unable to enjoy is the character of Col O'Neil.
In StarTrek, captains such as Picard, Kirk, Archer etc generally shown as knowledgable, sympathetic with more listening skills, even when faced with impossible or very risky situations. However, I somehow find O'Neil to be condescending and mocking others in many cases where it is unnecessary. I understand he is not shown as from a normal diplomatic leadership background, however he still behaves as if very silly and impatient. I feel other team mates like Carter and Daniel are much better.
O'Neil's dry jokes are nice sometimes, but I am getting a feel that he is taking it a bit too much. May be there is some backstory behind it, and even make sense in the first few episodes, but it feels a bit weird after half of the first season.
Am I the only one feeling this way?
