Italy trip! cinque Terre or Almalfi in October
First time out of the country for us! We are planning on starting in Bolzano for 3 nights, probably driving to Piedmont region (Alba/Barolo) for 2 nights and then either North Coast (Cinque Terre/ Portofino) or Almalfi (Capri or Positano) for 3 nights. We would likely start this trip around October 12th-14th and leaving in the 23rd-26th range.
I’m trying to explain to my wife that while weather might not be ideal in either location, it would be better around Almalfi than it would be in the Cinque Terre region in terms of temperatures and chances/length/ severity of rain storms.
Would you agree? The coastal aspect is important to us, and while time of year might not be ideal, I don’t want to do Cinque Terre just because it’s closer, but she thinks it will be better just because it’s closer. My understanding is that it’s not as a of a relaxing area to stay put for 3 days and depends on traveling to each town each, and if we want to be lazy, the amenities and hotels might not be right for that mindset.
Any glaring issues or suggestions you see with this itinerary?
If you do recommend going South, would you say mainland will be better than Capri, or would Capri still be worth it. I would imagine we stay in a hotel for 3 nights in either Capri or Positano rather than hopping around night to night. Maybe Sorrento for a night, and Capri or Positano for 2?
Due to work we can’t go in a warmer month so this is our shot and we want to make it count.
