Has collecting become more about showing off than actually enjoying the hobby?

Maybe it's just me, but it feels like a lot of the conversation around TCGs is about showing expensive pulls and graded cards instead of simply enjoying the game or collecting favorite characters.

Do you think the hobby has changed, or has it always been this way?
