Just something that came to mind. Just so I’m clear, this isn’t about bad entries that wrecked the franchise or something, it’s just about entries that weren’t bad or anything but something about it had you take a step back from the series afterwards?

Here’s a couple of mine:

Ultra Sun and Moon (Pokemon):  I’ve been playing these games since I was 2 and I loved them. Gold, Sapphire, Platinum, Black 2, Explorers of Sky, Pokepark, Shadows of Almia, Alpha Sapphire. All games I loved and played more times then I can count. Then I started getting older, had less friends to play and talk about the series with, I played Sun and Moon and found I wasn’t having as much fun as I previously did (i think it’s because I started finding the battle mechanics of Pokemon less interesting when compared to other games) and then I tried Ultra Moon and that kind of killed my hype for the series and I didn’t end up buying the future main series in Sword and Shield + Scarlet and Violet. I still keep up with the series (got the two legends games and the mystery dungeon remake) and the new Pokemon and still occasionally play the older titles but otherwise I’m not as vested in the series as before.

Heroes of Olympus: The Blood of Olympus (Rick Riordan Books): This one was probably just having too high expectations. This was the end of the Heroes of Olympus series and I loved the final book of the first Percy Jackson series (The Last Olympian) and after the great book before it (House of Hades), I was expecting an amazing finish and it didn’t work for me. Didn’t care that much for Nico and Reyna’s shadow trip, the final battles with Gaia and the Giants felt weak and it felt too long. Basically, I wasn’t a fan and haven’t had the urge to read any of Rick’s books since. Not the Trials of Apollo, the Magnus Chase books, the new Nico books or the new Percy Jackson stuff (although I hear I dodged a bullet with those last two).
