did my fam ask for too much?

In an arranged set up, my family insisted that 7–8 marla of property be only written as deferred Haq Meher in the Nikah Nama( not give outrightly thats how we do it in our family ) .The guy’s family got very uncomfortable and said, “likh ke tu dena par jata hai and they also got rigid on 10 tola gold” and my family refused to back down and rishta broke.

Context:

While he is financially well-established ( has high income and a luxury car), my family remains concerned about the long-term stability of his career in real estate. Their concerns intensified after they learned—only later in the process—that he had not completed his university degree. Given that I graduated from an elite university in Lahore, they perceive there to be a significant educational gap between us ( which i dont believe in cause we had chemistry ) .Additionally, they were uneasy that his previous broken engagement was disclosed only after we had already agreed to move forward plus he had a broken engagement it was not disclosed to us until later ( they found out after the mangni that the girl was ahmadi etc ) and told us after we said yes,

Individually, none of these factors would have been a dealbreaker, but taken together, but after the fam got weirded out by our haq meher demand, they reinforced my family's reservations and started seeing all this together.

My side:
I do like the guy a lot and want this to work and I’m starting to wonder if my family messed up by being so firm, as in they could have negotiated it. i have no idea how to feel about this?
