Observations on rewatching the Dubai trio after season 3.
I've been rewatching the show in its entirety (which I'm pretty much always doing these days, just get to the end and start over) and it's fun to pick up on some of the ways season 3 has changed the dynamic in Dubai. Here are a few of the details I've noticed and been thinking about as I've been watching:
- Daniel watching Armand get sucked off by Louis is soooooo much more intense now, and it was already pretty weird and intense before! Armand staring into the eyes of the man he loves while the man he also loves but who doesn't love him the way he wants performs one of the most intimate acts a vampire can do to another vampire. Insane!!
- Louis taunting Daniel about Alice turning down his proposal in Paris -- before season 3, I assumed (and so did Daniel) that Louis was just pulling this straight out of Daniel's memories, maybe with Armand's help. Now I wonder if he knows about it because Armand was there and told him what happened. Did Louis ever actually do the "fishhook in the head" thing to Daniel, or was he always just telling him what he knew about from Armand's stalking?
- Armand knowing how Daniel likes his drinks and doing a better job than Real Rashid. Now we know why!
- Totally wild of Louis to flirt with Daniel and even offer to fuck him ("do you want to now?") knowing that Armand has been psychosexually obsessed with Daniel for fifty years. The gall, the gumption!! 💀 I wonder what would have happened if Armand came home and found them together. I imagine it would have made San Francisco look like a fun playdate.
- The whole Stein argument is now obviously turned completely on its head. Armand acting the whole time for nobody's benefit but his own ("you just assume it was me") just to fuck with Louis and make him paranoid. Diabolical.
- "It was love." Well, yes. Armand having to ask Real Rashid what Daniel was doing now feels like he did genuinely overlook his surveillance because he was too busy being distracted by Daniel being there at all.
- The Loumand dynamic in general is so much more fucked up and engaging, knowing how Armand was secretly seething behind those smiles and flirty looks. Every time Louis says "my love" must have felt like a dagger to the heart for Armand, ough. And who are they acting for? Themselves? Each other? Daniel? Just stuck in their roles? Or something else? (For the record: I am a Loumand love truther, I just think it's a particularly toxic and complicated kind of love.
There's obviously a lot more. This whole dynamic is so fascinating to me! Please share if you've picked up on any other fun little details!
