Almost Prestige 3 on Sniper—am I missing something, or is the boss/burst damage surprisingly weak?

Operations

Hey everyone,

I’m currently leveling Sniper and almost at Prestige 3. While the sustain is ridiculous—thanks to Camo Cloak paired with the perk that restores CHP on cloak—I’m seriously struggling with single-target and boss damage.

I expected poor horde clear, but the lack of damage against Extremis/Terminus enemies and actual bosses really baffles me.

For example: during a Trigon Prime fight, both my teammates died around the 50% hp mark. I spent 5 minutes dodging and negating all damage with cloak, but I only managed to deal about a quarter of his health in that entire time.

Here’s my experience with the weapons so far:

  • Bolt Sniper Rifles (Non-Heroic): Honestly feel terrible. Standing still, it takes 4 headshots to kill a Majoris (3 to set up an execute), which feels awful when you carry under 22 ammo total. Even cycling reloads/cloak buffs to put them in execute state in 2 shots feels way too slow for the class fantasy.
  • Heroic Sniper Rifle: Does decent damage, but disabling all ammo regen means you inevitably run out. Even then, it’s still nowhere near the burst damage other classes pull off—and consistently landing headshots on a boss flailing around at teammates is tough.
  • Las Fusil: Feels much better. Good cleave for minor horde control, 2 headshots (or 1 charged headshot from cloak) to put a Majoris in execute. It feels closer to the sniper fantasy, but it still feels like a drag against Terminus threats and bosses.

I’m moving on to the Stalker pattern next in hopes it improves, and I haven't fully tried melee yet (though charging Shadow Stab consuming a quarter of the cloak meter while the target moves away or gets killed by a teammate feels pretty clunky).

Right now, the only time I feel like a high-priority stealth assassin is when I use the Heroic rifle to steal Majoris kills from my team. As soon as a Terminus shows up or things get hectic, that fantasy vanishes.

So, am I missing some core tech, perk combination, or playstyle to actually pump out boss damage, or is Sniper just fundamentally reliant on teammates to deal heavy single-target DPS?
