Non-religious words to honor and let go
Hi all, I’m new in the healthcare field and work in an ICU. As you can guess, this field and unit bring every sort of death. At this point, I have only been with a few patients when they have left this planet, and what I am sadly already getting used to is the swiftness in which new patients come in and the shift keeps on moving.
I am home now from a heavy shift and while death sparks the appreciation of life, it feels wrong to just go on with my day like nothing happened. I am not religious and am hoping someone here might have a little quote, saying, poem, etc. they could share with me. Something short but beautiful and meaningful so I can start a tradition of lighting a candle and saying these words to both hold them in my thoughts, even if just for a moment, to acknowledge and respect the life lost, and to let the weight of it go.
