Violation of F-1 status. What can I do?

Question❓

Hi all. Two weeks ago, I was applying to extend my I-20 by one year since I am CODOing to a different major. ISS got back to me today, informing me that since I dropped a 3-credit course from my 12-credit-hour schedule last fall semester, I underenrolled without seeking approval from DSO and therefore violated my F-1 student status, and my SEVIS record is going to be terminated. When I made the drop at the time, my advisor instantly approved it and did not inform me that I needed approval from DSO, and I was completely unaware of the situation until ISS emailed me today. I went ahead and immediately filled out the Regain F-1 status form and am trying to reach out to local immigration attorneys. In the meantime, is there anything else I can do? Does anybody recommend any resources/people I can speak with? Thanks
