And she's not taking any more of your shit.

**Backstory:**

Natsuki spent her childhood being starved, beaten, silenced… Made to be small and feel small. Quiet defiance, emotional resilience, and hiding her personality within a tough, abrasive outer shell were the only options she had to demonstrate her strength, to feel some small measure of safety. What if the shackles finally came off? What if, for the first time in her life, she found a way to take control of her fate and experience the freedom of self-determination? To decide, without limitation, how to express her will and how to define and show her inner strength.

And, almost just as importantly, after finally reclaiming her body and her agency, to what lengths would she go to ensure that no one can subjugate her and make her small ever again? To guarantee that control will **never** be wrested from her iron grip?

What if Natsuki survived Exit Music: Redux, and somehow found the strength to keep fighting? In this alternate reality, she was already eighteen during those events, and therefore never hatched the plan with MC and Sayori to find her mother’s family on the other side of the country. As a result, she and MC are both at his place when her father breaks in. Against Natsuki’s explicit orders, MC calls the police while she tries to talk her father down, who realizes what MC is doing and flies into a berserker rage. He then nearly kills both her and MC during the violent confrontation that follows, and is seconds away from killing MC in front of Natsuki. She has completely crumbled emotionally; ready to accept any and every form of humiliation to appease her father while begging for MC's life.

Luckily, Sayori arrives in the nick of time, having heard the commotion from next door, and throws a noose around Natsuki’s father’s neck, pulling it tight and subduing him long enough for the police to arrive. The proficiency and speed with which Sayori can tie a noose thus transforms despair into Salvation, becoming the deciding factor that has saved MC’s life.

Natsuki’s father is convicted and imprisoned, and she gains control of his house and assets that had previously been used to control her. However, both she and MC now suffer from severe PTSD, and the incident exposes the physical abuse she had spent years concealing. Their trust has been broken and they cannot move past their ordeal or salvage their nascent relationship, choosing instead to part ways and trying to see if even their previous friendship can be repaired. Natsuki’s suffering, and the stigma of having her identity reduced to that of a helpless, fragile abuse victim, becomes known to all, stripping her of the respect she fought so hard for and forcing her to endure scrutiny, pity, and the loss of control over her image and her narrative. However, she now has something that she has never truly possessed before: Choice. Options. Material security. Finally out from under her father’s thumb, she is now free to reinvent herself; to remake her identity and remold her body into what she has always wanted to be, not what her father dictated she be… She, and only she, will control how she is perceived by others.

She enrolls at university and moves into residence, where she has a locked room of her own, reliable access to three meals a day, space for her manga, and fitness facilities she may enter whenever she chooses. As her body recovers from prolonged malnourishment, she discovers that strength training offers an avenue to help cope with some of her trauma symptoms, namely physical insecurity, forcing the chaos around her into submission and regulating some of the pent-up stress, anger, fear, and intrusive memories. Taking full control over her own body, her increasingly rigid training schedule becomes an anchor that helps her make sense of herself with its simplicity, and a refuge to express her agency, bodily autonomy, and newfound self-determination.

Then, as she begins to experience measurable progress and physical recovery, she starts to experience an intoxicating type of control and physical presence she never has before. Over the next three years, that discipline becomes increasingly compulsive as she gradually transforms from the weakest and least physically imposing individual in any given room to the *strongest* and *most* intimidating, as her legendarily ferocious bark now comes with an equally ferocious bite behind it. Her body becomes her bastion, a suit of armor and fortress designed to declare that she can never again be made helpless, subjugated, controlled, dismissed, demeaned, or disrespected. However, her fortress can also become her prison, locking away the deepest, most vulnerable and intimate parts of herself behind a wall more inaccessible than ever.

**Characterization:**

Natsuki21, named as such for her canon age explicitly set at 21 years old, is an empowered, adult reinterpretation of Natsuki designed as an intentional inversion of demeaning ‘loli’ style portrayals, shallow ‘waifu’ tropes, and other similar, common mischaracterizations.

Natsuki’s muscularity grows from a history of abuse, humiliation, and enforced helplessness that fuels an obsessive fear of being seen as weak, pitiable, or unworthy of respect. After escaping her father’s control, she deliberately rebuilds her body through disciplined training, turning physical strength into proof that she can protect herself, set boundaries, and choose what happens to her. If she is not given the respect she deserves, she now has the ability to take it by force.

Symbolically, her body represents agency reclaimed from powerlessness, psychological pressure, anxiety, and anguish channeled and transformed into strength. No longer afraid to show her interests freely and ***dare*** anyone to call her cute or insist that manga isn’t literature, her baking and manga tattoos preserve the softer interests she was once mocked or threatened for, turning them instead into a protective outer shell of bravado. They exist as a permanent reminder of Natsuki’s struggle to freely express herself, showing that becoming powerful did not require abandoning who she was, and celebrating her ability to freely be herself without being forced to endure ridicule for it ever again. Her arc is summarized by the conviction that she will **never be powerless again**, while gradually learning that her impenetrable armor comes at a cost, and that genuine power also includes the power to trust, to allow herself to be soft, and to choose when *not* to fight.

She is still confrontational, more competitive than ever, impatient with condescension, and quick to interpret concern as pity. Her sarcasm is sharper, her confidence more grounded, and her affection still emerges through challenges, food, insults, and acts of practical care. Baking remains one of her central languages of intimacy. Manga remains a refuge where emotions and vulnerability can be exaggerated safely. Her sensitivity to ridicule or abandonment hasn’t been erased, but she now has more effective ways to defend those softer parts of herself. Strength training has emerged as a third pillar of her identity, a bastion that lets her take The Best Place in the World with her everywhere she goes. Her body itself has now become her safe space, her sanctuary, her threshold and boundary line... Which nevertheless makes it just as easy not to let others in emotionally as it does physically.

**Route:**

Natsuki’s trauma-bonded relationship with MC21 further complicates her evolution. He has already seen her at her most endangered, which makes intimacy with him both comforting and threatening. However, she refuses to become someone he merely rescued, or allow him to perceive or treat her that way anymore. Still, buried far underneath her outward self-confidence and self-assurance is a festering crystal of profound insecurity that only he seems to be able to see and access. Their adult dynamic frequently turns affection into rivalry, physical challenge, teasing, and negotiated struggles for control. Through him and the other members of the newly reformed university literature club, she must learn that accepting care doesn’t equate to losing her hard-won independence, and how she can learn to allow herself to trust and be vulnerable again without surrendering her agency, her identity, or her safety… And without taking those things away from the person she is with.

Will she be able to finally cast away the dark shadow of her father’s influence for good? More importantly, will she be able to do it without becoming like her father in the process? That, and whether the doki21 cast will be able to heal from their traumas, or succumb to them, will be up to the player’s choices.

P.S. I'm interested in hiring competent artists to make the manual renditions of these, and all future, concept posters/sprites/cgs. All provenance/process information is documented in each individual image's metadata.

P.P.S. I included white and black color palette variations; I'm not sure which one to go with yet, and may just use them interchangeably/symbolically to measure 'alignment' as you advance through the story. Will accept feedback.
