Just asking
Over the past few weeks I have been following discussions about the NEET protests and other political events. Almost every discussion becomes BJP vs Congress.
People seem more interested in defending their party than talking about the actual issue. It always becomes “Congress did this” or “BJP did that” and the conversation goes nowhere.
I honestly do not understand why people treat political parties like cricket teams.
No party is perfect. Every party has done some good things and some bad things while in power. Instead of blindly supporting or hating a party, shouldn’t we judge every government by the work it actually does?
As someone working in an IT these are the problems that affect my daily life.
• Bad roads
• Waterlogging after every heavy rain
• Traffic keeps getting worse
• Poor public transport so more people buy private vehicles which makes traffic even worse
• Bad air quality
• Food adulteration is still common
• Corruption
• Court cases take years to finish
• Weak law enforcement and local goons creating fear
• Politicians blocking roads with their convoys and making traffic worse
• If a salaried taxpayer loses their job there is very little support from the government
These are the things I want governments to focus on.
Instead political discussions become a blame game. Many MPs and MLAs have criminal cases against them yet they continue to get elected.
We pay a lot of taxes but many people do not feel they get services that match what they pay. At the same time governments keep announcing welfare schemes while basic infrastructure and governance problems remain.
I am not against welfare for people who genuinely need it. I just think we should ask tough questions to every government instead of blindly supporting one party.
Why don’t we ask for better roads cleaner cities better public transport faster courts less corruption and more accountability instead of fighting over political parties?
Imagine if citizens asked these questions with the same energy they use to defend political parties.
