Can’t find a full time job at 26 to move out, what do I do??
Living at home in my culture is seen as a positive thing, and it has become more common and normalized, especially when you live in an expensive area. Obviously living at home has benefits like you don’t need to pay rent and you get to be around family so it’s not a super lonely feeling, however, if your family is extremely overwhelming, it can be torture.
Over the years, I have been the only person in my big family that cares about cleanliness and organization, everyone in my family is extremely dirty and does not pick up after themselves. My brother sleeps in the basement and it is basically a hoarders den, my mom has literally not showered in 15 years and she just does not brush her teeth, my other family members sleep on random couches. This is ironic, considering we live in a big nice house.
There are calmer periods at home, but for the most part, it can be very overwhelming. I avoid my dad because he is an extremely stressful person. He can be really calm and then get very aggressive fast. His energy is absolutely exhausting and literally makes you feel like you’re going to throw up. My mom does not help herself and is an extremely lazy person. She has completely given up and does basically nothing. Unfortunately, she recently found out that she had diabetes and also assist from not cleaning herself and so she basically lays on the couch all day until that recovers.
I know that most people on the Internet will not have much compassion and will just basically say find a job even if you don’t like it. The thing is I do work, I am a professional, ballet dancer, and now mainly focussing on teaching and choreographing because I was not ready to leave the country to join a ballet company and I think it’s just too unstable. I have a really great reputation, my students win competitions, I’ve put amazing work on stage and my improve. I know I’m a great teacher, but I am burnt out. I have left some jobs this year and have picked up some new but even though I make a high amount hourly there are just not enough hours to work.
I used to work part-time jobs in restaurants to save up, but I was harassed at every job. I worked at and so I quit that many years ago. My friends told me that I should apply to jobs as a receptionist or an office administrator assistant, and I have applied too many and never got a response. Even though my heart wasn’t in it, I tried and I just haven’t heard anything.
I feel trapped, it is not a smart idea to go back to school because that would spend a lot of money on something. I am not passionate about and I feel like I would be wasting time and prolonging living at home. I want to open my own ballet studio, but this requires a lot of marketing and money. I have savings so I’ve been responsible in terms of that, but I really don’t know how to move out and living at home is so draining. What can I do? I thought about leaving the country but at this point, I don’t even know if I can do that.
