MA and D&C experience
April – last period
May – positive pregnancy test
June – Transvaginal ultrasound (TVS) and ordered meds from FPOP (I was 11 weeks pregnant when the meds arrived)
1 Mifepristone
10 Misoprostol
Side effects from meds: chills, cramping, headache
I expelled the fetus, sacs, and placenta.
I sent the picture to FPOP, and they confirmed it was a success.
1 week post-MA – still bleeding; I passed two blood clots the size of a one-peso coin. My lower abdomen still hurt, I was pale, but my pregnancy symptoms had disappeared.
2 weeks post-MA – just spotting, no more pain. I was able to move around. On the last day of the second week, I had a check-up and TVS; my cervix was closed, but RPOC (retained products of conception) was detected. I took a pregnancy test, and it was still positive. I went back to my OB for a referral to a public hospital for a D&C. At the public hospital, they prescribed Methergine for two weeks, hoping the RPOC would be expelled with medication. They didn't want to perform a D&C because my cervix was already closed, so I went home and took Methergine for two weeks.
3 weeks post-MA – I took the Methergine, but nothing was being expelled; this made me overthink, and I took another pregnancy test—it was still positive.
4 weeks post-MA – After two weeks of medication, I had another check-up and TVS with my OB. RPOC was still detected, and an endometrial polyp was also found; I was told I needed a D&C since the Methergine hadn't worked. I was given a referral to a public hospital and went there the next day. Thank God, I underwent the D&C and am now recovering. To all the girls out there, please make sure to get checked and have a transvaginal ultrasound (TVS) done early on—it really is better to get checked sooner rather than later, especially if you have RPOC (retained products of conception). I thought I was in the clear, but it doesn't just end there; even after passing most of the tissue, there can still be remnants left inside. I decided to address my situation immediately—even before developing an infection or sepsis from the RPOC—rather than overthinking what might happen next. I preferred to undergo a D&C (raspa) to ensure everything was completely cleaned out, instead of waiting for my period in the hope that the remaining tissue would pass on its own. I had read about many cases where the tissue didn't come out, leading to heavy bleeding for a month and even fevers; I didn't want that to happen to me, so I really pushed to have the procedure done.
I hope sharing my experience helps you all. ❤️
