Podcast on the history of football starting at the very beginning

I'm launching a long-form documentary-style podcast that starts at the very very beginning of football and progresses deeply through each major moment in the game's history.

The approach is to provide maximum context for why and how things happened the way they did and are the way they are. It sprawls and rabbit-holes its way through history as the ultimate manifestation of my 5-year old curiosity. It's an example of what happens if you keep asking why until you're blue in the face or long in the tooth.

It's politics, history, art, economics, culture...

It might be the least footbally podcast out there and could also be the most footbally (depending on your frame). It's a whole thing.

I had fun, I hope you enjoy. No ads. No plan to run any even if it is successful.

Season 1 is three episodes

Episode 1 covers the origins of game relative to ancient ball and kicking games

Episode 2 digs into folk football

Episode 3 focuses on the Foot-ball Club of Edinburgh

If I make a season 2, we'll pick up with the British School boys and get into the history of women's football, etc.

If you spot mistakes, please tell me. I plan to make a corrections episode between every season to clean up imprecisions (because there inevitably will be some with a project of this scale). So I'm collecting those as people help me find them. No one could be an expert on all this stuff and I have no budget. I tried hard. I cared a lot. And, I probably screwed up somewhere.
