So about Dany's ending...
Hi everyone, before I get into it, I know this sub has rules about being respectful. Just to add to it, please be polite when discussing this, I sometimes get treated like an idiot for disagreeing with someone, which sucks. I am always open to learning more and changing my mind.
So recently, I've been rewatching scenes of Dany. She's my favorite character in the show, and I can't get over the tragedy of her character. I'm ignorant of the book stuff (I haven't read them). But I still think that the way the show finished her arc was in opposition to the character we had been shown. If the books ended the same way, which seems like the plan, I think it *could* have also been a disservice to what was built up. I know just by saying that, that people will call me a Dany glazer, and I won't lie. I am biased.
Again, I'm ignorant of the books, so I'm for sure missing key facts about her character that make all of this more believable. And I know the show was rushed, so nothing really made sense. You guys can inform me of anything I'm missing from the books or show.
I know Dany was not perfect throughout the show either. But compared to all the men in the story, she wasn't even close to bad. She also had to do harsh things because that is what is required of a ruler. If she was a pushover, then Dany would have just been a forgotten character.
To me, the point of GOT is to show what people will do for power. How it can corrupt and change them. I know Dany is a perfect example of a character being corrupt by power. It was just executed poorly, and we all know that.
It's also so half assed to me that Targaryens as a people can just go mad whenever. Seeing it in the context of GOT is crazy because these people are victims of g*nocide. Maybe I'm too woke, but it makes it seem like they are so vicious and power hungry that they deserve it somehow. I know that GOT portrays a lot of problematic stuff like incest, assault, murder, etc. I'm not trying to cancel the show or anything. I'm not ignoring any of that.
But if we are to assume that George had this whole plot about these people, being massacred, and the last known survivor gets killed by another survivor, based on his drafts, this whole plotline just feels like a waste. It feels shitty.
From what I know, George doesn't do typical hero stories. So I can see how Dany, the underdog who could be a hero, was treated in this way. I understand the direction. I just don't agree with it.
They emphasized her kindness so much throughout the show. It just annoys me how it all ended up. She was set up as this great ruler. She had an actual claim to the throne. She was kind but strong. It feels like such a waste for her to be treated like this.
Eventually, future rulers would have messed stuff up again. I understand the Bran situation. I don't know what the right way to fix that is.
My only question for you guys is, what's your own opinion. What am I missing from the books and show? I haven't watched the spin-offs either, so keep in mind I'm missing lore from those, too.
I know people will probably be upset about my opinion. But I should be allowed to say what I think and feel. Just like everyone. I know this is a cold take that's been said a lot. I've just been curious since I'm pretty new to reddit, what everyone thinks. Thank you for reading if you did.
