Severe neck pain

I’ve had moderate to severe AS for 18 years. I’ve been dealing with severe neck pain for several weeks now and it’s changed recently. I had a steroid injection two weeks ago for it and it flared much worse for a few days and then significantly improved. About 5 days ago a pain like a tight metal band around the top of my neck that occasionally feels like it’s being tightened began, which flared up everything else. My doc gave me a 6 day medrol dose pack, which I generally decline when flaring but felt necessary, and around the clock muscle relaxers. I have felt some improvement but still having times of no improvement. I’m curious if others have dealt with a similar situation and if you found relief in some way. Thanks
