Fun Car Rental for ~1300 mile 7 day tour- help please!
Looking for opinions/advice. My girlfriend and i are going to Iceland for about 6.5 days in 3 weeks. We are essentially doing the typical lap of the country.
I’ve grown up around cars my whole life and enjoy driving/would definitely consider myself an enthusiast. I am currently working on a rental car, and am trying to figure out what route to go.
(Coming from the states, a Jimny is a cool option.)
Stuck between a few different ways to go:
-Manual Jimny. Seems fun to drive, but I am scared about driving a “tinny brick” for a week and 1300 miles. If wind has me all over the road and it doesnt have enough power to get out if its own way, driving hours a day may become a chore. Are they that bad??
-Manual hatchback. Thinking VW Golf, Mazda 3, etc. This is probably the most logical choice for long term driving and would still be fun.
-Automatic larger car/practicality first. This way the girlfriend can drive (she cant drive stick) and we can comfortably cruise for hours on end without having to get out “roadtrip fatigued” anywhere.
With driving being a big part of out journey, i’m kinda putting a lot of stock into this decision. Money is a factor, but willing to pay up for what i want.
Also, have a connection at enterprise and can get a small discount and essentially free full insurance, which will save $50+ a day if i just pick generic enterprise car.
Thoughts??
