Good Business Karma Pays Off

When I graduated from college 30 some years ago, I took a job as a loan officer.

It was hard work. I cold called constantly. People who needed money couldn't get it. People who didn't need it didn't want to talk to a 23 yr old kid about it.

One day, I cold called a building supply company. The owners son met with me. Asked me 3 dozen questions. We hit it off. 6 months later they moved all their business to the bank. My career took off.

15 years later, I decide to go REP full time. First, though, I called my friend. He asked 3 dozen questions. He then set up meetings with builders he knew. Referred me to a client who still, to this day, is 10% of my annual business.

At the same time, our kids were in school together. They weren't close, but they ran the whole route - elementary, middle, high school. They both played volleyball - I saw my friend several times a year as a result.

Last week, I noticed his social media had exploded. Content on fire, lots of engagement. Something had changed. I called him - what are you doing different? He tells me "My daughter just started a social media company. You like her work?"

I told him I did. And I hired her today.

Life is fun.
