Did you guys have presents that have to be "earned"?

For as long as I can remember, my birthday gifts were never given to me on my birthday; instead, they were wrapped and left in the living room for me to "earn". Conveniently, I would never actually "earn them", and then I would end up opening them all up 6 months past my birthday when my mom finally found the time in her busy, busy schedule of nothing.

Have any of you guys also dealt with this?
